Makeup 101: Create Simple Smokey Eyes with Estée Lauder

30 Jan

I came across this smoky eye demonstration video while I was browsing through Estée Lauder’s company website. For me, eyes are one of the most noticeable features on the face, and it’s often one of the most challenging parts for average consumers when it comes to the make-up application. Today, let’s have a look at the simple techniques from Estée Lauder’s Signature Techniques to create smoky eyes with just a few make-up products.

In an earlier blog post Makeup 101: Sultry Smoky Eyes in 12 Steps with Bobbi Brown, we saw the step-by-step image chart on how to create a complete smoky eyes look. Today, I wanted to share this video with you on how to create Simple Smoky Eyes with Estée Lauder’s make-up artist Signature Techniques.

“Smoky eye is a make-up technique, it’s not about dark colored eyes – it’s about placing a color that is darkest in its shade closest to the top & bottom lash lines, and gradually fades out at the edge with a very smooth, blended, diffused finish.” –  Tommy

It’s very simple. You will see in the video that they have only used four products: Double Wear Concealer, black eye kohl, eye shadow, and an eye blending brush. To me, it’s very interesting how they created the eye shadow base by mixing the black eye kohl and the Double Wear Concealer together. I have never tried this technique before, and it’s definitely an artist tip for those who like to explore different ways in make-up application.

In my experience with make-up, if you use any product that is emollient-based underneath the eye shadow, it does intensify the powder eye shadow color. And you will see in the video that the make-up artist draw the eye kohl on the back of his hand, and yes, professional make-up artist often do that. Hands are our palette for mixing colors.

According to Estee Lauder’s website, this Double Wear Concealer lasts 15-hours, it’s crease-resistant, oil-free, and water-, perspiration- and humidity-resistant…. Sounds like it a great product to use in humid countries such as in Asia! I have never tired this product myself, so I don’t know if it really works its magic as described, but I do know Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation is really great for those who prefer to have a long lasting foundation with more coverage. I know for sure it is one of the best-selling luxury foundations in Asia.
