CLASS DESCRIPTION

M·A·C PRO Senior Artists discuss the highlights of the Whether working in bridal, film, TV, beauty or headshots, the ability to create perfect eye liner, flawless lips, great skin and clean brows is essential to an artist’s success. M·A·C PRO Senior Artists demonstrate key makeup application techniques and the effect that brow, lip and eye liner shape have on the face. While this class is intended for makeup artists with little experience, it also provides essential information about the effects of changing eye, brow, and lip shape.

Makeup Essentials

Caitlin’s class focused on recommendation for products that would be considered “Must Haves” for professional make-up artists’ basic make-up kit. She highlighted primers and “Clear Products” as a directional move in the application of make-up. Modern make-up is defined now in terms of beautiful textures and creating expensive looking skin.

Caitlin mentioned that make-up is moving away from the use of a lot of powders and foundations, and is more about the steps of primers and skincare. Taking the time to really look at the client and assess the facial features is key in coming up with a make-up that will not only highlight the client’s natural features, but will also give you a road map as to what the key feature should be.

·

MAC Care Blends Essential Oils

·

Care Blends Essential Oils were highlighted as an essential in the kit. They are great for giving that radiant “plumped-up skin” and work well for all skin types (even those who are “sensitive to everything”). Massaging them into the skin with your hands also gives you the opportunity to feel the bone structure of the face and get to know the texture of the skin as well.

·

MAC Wipes

·

It is essential that all dryness is removed from the skin (using Wipes), so that there is no visible flakiness before make-up application. Now in the days of HD (high definition), any and all bits of texture are amplified on camera and therefore extra time should be taken to start with a completely smooth, clean base.

·

MAC Fast Response Eye Cream

·

MAC Lip Conditioner

·

MAC #217 Blending Brush

·

Fast Response Eye Cream and Lip Conditioner were highlighted as essentials as well. Taking the time to prep the eye and lip area in the beginning of the application allows the skin to be moisturized and primed before any color is applied. Caitlin loves the #217 Blending Brush to apply the eye cream due to its fluffy bristles and does not apply a lot of pressure so the model’s eyes will not tear (which can cause drama down the road).

MAC Matte Texture

·

MAC Brow Set Clear

·

Matte Texture was noted as a key product for men’s grooming as well as an all around great ‘clear product” for taking shine away. Often powder and foundation can start looking too much like Drag make-up on a guy (when working with HD). Also Clear Brow Set is a must have for both men and women in general grooming. Caitlin preps the hair by coming through the brows in both directions and they finishes by combing them upward to open the eye area, we well as to speak to the trend of full “boyish brows”.

·

MAC Gloss Texture

·

MAC Natural Radiance Primer

·

In the theme of “Clear Products”: Gloss Texture, Natural Radiance face primer, Strobe Cream and Face & Body Foundation in “White” were highlighted to give skin dimension and look its most youthful.

·

MAC Strobe Cream

·

MAC Face and Body Foundation

·

Caitlin spent time speaking of the many virtues of Face & Body Foundation and the variety of coverage that can be attained through layering and allowing dry time in between layers. The tip of using the #187 Duo Fiber Face Brush and “spinning” it in circular motions to achieve a flawless finish was highlighted.

Caitlin shared with the group the importance of not throwing away the bags that your sharpeners/empty vials etc. come in. They can be used to hold the shavings from the sharpener and allows everything to be contained and not lost in a lot of gear. This was a small tip but made a lot of impact within the group.

Face & Body Foundation was applied first with concealer to follow for the reason being that once you have the veil of general coverage, then you can look closer and see what truly does still need some concealer. It prevents a heavy application of concealer to take place, and saves on product.

Caitlin spoke about the importance of creams and how they mimic natural skin texture and are so easy to blend. She demonstrated contouring and highlighting as well as a blush application all done with a variety of creams. She showcased the new PRO palettes as well for storage and a way to downsize the amount of product that is carried in a kit.

Curling lashes is very important and Caitlin talked about the half lash curler and how a natural effect is achieved and gives the client an instant eye lift and also aids in a beautiful liner application that doesn’t pull the eye downwards.

Purchasing palettes of neutral shades of eye shadows as well as bright true colors/primary secondary etc. in matte (texture) was recommended. By purchasing frost pigment and having those two key palettes, all textures can be achieved.

·

MAC Crème Liner “Black”

·

Crème Liner “Black” was sold as an artist tool (as opposed to a typical consumer product). Crème Liner allows for so many types of looks and finishes depending on the brush and what you mix with it. Fix+ was mentioned as a way to give an almost patent finish to the liner.

·

MAC Fix+

·

In terms of lashes, Caitlin spoke about trend and how the Brazilian market is the new “it place” at the moment. A lot of the models that are being cast for the shows are from Brazil, as well as Russia (both of which are being highlighted on the international market). Caitlin talked about the importance of waterproof product in the markets as well as the trend of creating small bundles of lashes by twisting the wand in a horizontal fashion. She demoed the look on the model to showcase the way a natural beauty make-up can be made more on trend or more editorial.

·

MAC PRO Chromagraphic Pencil

·

MAC PRO Lip Palette/6 Editorial Oranges

·

Lastly the lips were created and Caitlin used two products to achieve a beautiful red lip. By using the Basic Red Chromagraphic pencil with Morange Lipstick (from the Pro Lip Palette/6 Editorial Oranges), a very editorial lip was made. The trend of creating a fuller mouth was spoken about through the use of liner that is cut off at the ends of the mouth. By not following the full length of the lip line, the focus is more through the center thus giving a fuller, poutier lip.
