Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach

·

Have you ever wondered how beauty queens do their everyday natural look make-up? What products they are they obsessed with? or even what make-up tips & tricks they do to make that “little, yet effective” difference on their looks?

Besides models, social media bloggers, or make-up artists, we rarely see beauty queen such as 2015 Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach (Philippines) who shows her bare skin, and teaches viewers on how a step-by-step everyday make-up look is done, starting from priming the skin (very important)!

Here is a YouTube Video make-up tutorial for you to “watch and learn.” From a professional make-up artist’s perspective, I really like her selection of products (not to mention she uses a lot of M·A·C Cosmetics products that I absolutely can’t live without in my make-up kit), her color choices are neutral and suitable for just about all “light, light-medium, medium, medium-dark, slightly tanned” color skintones… in another word, bravo on her choice of products and colors!

In this blog post, I am going to list the make-up products she uses, how meaningful some of the products are, her advocacy work as Miss Universe 2015, and share her make-up tips & tricks that I believe you will find very useful!

Makeup Expert’s Tips & Tricks & Product Suggestions:

m%c2%b7a%c2%b7c-lightful-c-marine-bright-formula-softening-lotion

M·A·C Lightful C Marine Bright Formula Softening Lotion

  1. Moisturize your skin! Pia uses M·A·C Lightful C Marine Bright Formula Softening Lotion to instantly refresh, tones, brighten-up, and smooth the skin conditions with its special marine brightening formula.
Best-primers-10-Vogue-MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance

M·A·C Prep + Prime Natural Radiance

2. Prime your skin! A smooth, clean skin is so essential in creating that flawless make-up look. Pia’s choice of M·A·C Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Primer “Radiant Pink” is excellent before applying foundation to create a  smooth skin canvas that makes make-up last longer and controls the oil on the skin.

3. “Less is More” is the key with good make-up application. Putting more products on the face, it will become heavy and cake-y. We do not want that for our everyday make-up look. Use foundation and concealer only in areas where needed.

m%c2%b7a%c2%b7c-studio-sculpt-spf15-foundation

M·A·C Studio Sculpt SPF15 Foundation

4. Mix colors to get that perfect color match to your skin! For medium, medium-dark skin tones, I often have to mix colors to get the perfect shade. In M·A·C’s system, NC has more golden/olive skin undertone, while the NW has more pinky/rosey undertone. If NC or NW color by itself doesn’t match, you mix both skintone colors to get a perfect skintone match! M·A·C Studio Sculpt SPF15 Foundation is a gel-based foundation that offers medium to full coverage with a natural satin finish, great for everyday make-up!

m%c2%b7a%c2%b7c-haute-and-naughty-lash-mascara-black

M·A·C Haute and Naughty Lash Mascara “Black”

5. You want to create a natural defining lash in the day, and make it more dramatic & voluminous for the evening? This two-in-one M·A·C Haute and Naughty Lash Mascara “Black” does the trick for you! One for day, and the other is for evening!

m%c2%b7a%c2%b7c-mineralize-skinfinish-natural

M·A·C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural “Medium Dark”

6. This baked mineral M·A·C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder is multi-tasking! I have different shades of them in my make-up kit. Asides from its main job to set foundations, or to use as a powder foundation itself, the lighter shades are excellent for highlighting; the darker shade is great for contouring or as a blush / bronzing color. It creates a smooth looking skin while making sure its natural looking.

mac-technakohl-liner-graphblack

M·A·C Technakohl Liner “Graphblack”

7. Tight Eye Liner does the magic of creating a natural defining eye line without looking you are a wearing eye liner. M·A·C Technakohl Liner “Graphblack” is a mechanical pencil-style liner with a soft and creamy formula and intense color. Its long wearing and safe for use in the waterline. Tight eye lining does take practice though, and be careful not to poke the liner into your eyes.

mac-wash-and-dry-eye-brows-brow-set

M·A·C Eye Brows and Brow Set

8. Mixing shades of: light, medium and dark colors when sculpting your brows can add a 3-D effect to make it more realistic looking. One color eye brow can sometime look flat. M·A·C Eye Brows pencil is self-propelling and self-sharpening brow definer that adds shape, color and density. The colors that I like to have are: Brunette, Fling, Spiked, and Lingering.

Pageant Makeup Tutorial – AFTER

·

If you are into beauty pageant looks, Pia also showed another tutorial on Beauty Pageant Make-up Look that she did on herself for Miss Philippines and Miss Universe beauty pageants! Some key points for pageant make-ups (on stage) are:

  • Use foundation that is good for HD (high definition) and choose a shade that is half to one shade darker than your natural skin tone because stage lights, flashes will tend to wash away colors.
  • Do contour and highlight! This will bring more definition, and make yourself more photogenic on prints & videos!
  • Use neutral colors such as browns for: brows, eyes, contours, and cheek colors. They are timeless and classic.

“I want to help women avoid making mistakes by doing all the hard work for them, by finding the perfect colours for all skin tones. No longer will you have to suffer the indignity of trying to copy a look from a magazine, only to find that what made Kate Moss look fabulous, makes you look more drag than drop dead. Base, blusher and lip colour are sorted according to the three skin-tone families – there are three shades of base, three blush, and six glosses, and three lipsticks, with matching pencils.” — Charlotte Tilbury

In early summer 2013, it became known that Charlotte Tilbury, one of the world’s most sought-after make-up artists, launched her own line of cosmetics. This large collection of make-up by Charlotte Tilbury is now sold at the department store Selfridges, on Oxford Street in London.

As to the range of a collection, it must be said, has turned out bigger than the Marc Jacobs Beauty line. One hundred types of products for all occasions, ranging from mild skin care and make-up finishing .

“I’ve poured absolutely everything into this range – from my experience with product, knowledge of colour and backstage tips and tricks, that make it universally flattering and super wearable.  I hope that make-up artists will fall in love with the colour harmonies and textures, and that every woman will love how easy and effortless the products are to choose and use. After more than 20 years in the beauty industry, I wanted to launch more than another make-up artist range.  It’s time to revolutionise how women shop, choose and use make-up!” said Charlotte Tilbury.

Charlotte Tilbury on her cosmetics line : “I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into this range. I’ve always said that if I’m going to put my name to something, it had better be amazing and it is.”

The packaging is stylish and compact. The main color is gold mixed with dark maroon and white. Each jar,is decorated with the initials CT.

Makeup 101: Sultry Smokey Eyes with Bobbi Brown

8 Jan
Bobbi Brown: The Smoky Eye Collection

Bobbi Brown: The Smoky Eye Collection

·

Sultry smoky eye make-up is one of the most popular eye make-up styles there is, and it never goes out of trend! There are different types of smoky eyes, and of course they can be created in multiple ways with various tools/colours. In general, sultry smoky eyes give a very dramatic, sexy appeal and it expands your eyes.

One thing that many people tend to get confused about is that smoky eyes is that they are only done in dark or black colors, it actually can be created in any colors! Smoky eye is a style of eye make-up, it’s not about dark colored eyes–it’s about placing a color that is darkest in its shade closest to the top & bottom lash lines, and gradually fades out at the edge with a very smooth, blended, diffused edge.

·

“The key to sultry smoky eyes is all about BLENDING that diffused edge with a good eye shadow blending brush–blend, blend, blend!” –  Tommy

·

I cannot emphasize that more than enough, it’s when you don’t blend the colors well, people think you have that funny looking raccoon eyes. I have shown an earlier make-up post that the two blending brushes that I like to use for smokey eye blending are:M·A·C #224 Tapered Blending Brush and M·A·C #217 Blending Brush. They both blend pretty well, but the main difference is that #224 brush is a bit softer in fibers and fits better for larger eyes, while #217 brush is a bit firmer and fits well for medium to smaller eyes. They both can do the trick!

Remember smoky eye makeup means smoky all around the edge of eyes, so don’t forget to blend the bottom eye make-up too! The brush that I love to use for blending the bottom eyes is M·A·C #219 Pencil Brush. It blends so well in both eye shadows and eye pencil colors with its soft pointed brush tip. These eye blending brushes make a smoky eye creation so much easier!

·

Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush

Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush 暈染眼影刷

At Bobbi Brown, their most popular brush for eye shadow blending is their Eye Smudge Brush. The tapered end of this brush is designed for smudging to create a modern, soft, smoky eye. A lot of users find it to be a great brush for blending the smoky eyes as it’s soft, yet firm enough to fit into the crease for the smudging work.

·

Here is a chart and step-by-step instructions from Bobbi Brown’s make-up tips on how to create sultry smoky eyes. Although her way of creating the eyes is different from how I normally would do it, but if it helps you to understand better, it’s all good! It’s about how to achieve the look, and we all have our own ways of doing it!

·

12 Steps To Sultry Smokey Eyes

A smoky eye is the most dramatic look for eveningit’s pretty and sexy.  Remember to keep layering the color and continue to check until you like the look.

·

12 Steps to Sultry Smokey Eyes:

  1. Start with white shadow on the entire lid. Choose a medium, smoky color for the lower lid. Apply it three-quarters of the way up.
  2. Continue to layer the color to make it darker. Add a deeper color on top and in the crease to intensify the look.
  3. Concentrate on the crease. Continue to layer the shadow deeply enough to create the dramatic effect.
  4. Use your finger to soften the shadow.
  5. Using pencil or dark shadow or liner, apply in smooth strokes moving from the outer to the inner corner of the eyelid.
  6. To give the pencil line staying power, use a liner brush to sweep a layer of eye shadow over the pencil.
  7. Reapply more shadow to add more definition. Continue layering and checking for the effect you desire.
  8. Line underneath the eye beginning at the outside corner, moving toward the inner corner.
  9. Line as close to the lashes as possible.
  10. Soften the line using a clean finger or Q-tip.
  11. Smudge the line to create a smoky look, somewhere between liner and shadow. The liner can be thickened.
  12. Final smoky eye.
